Objectives:
Erasmus Mundus External Co-operation window India is an EU initiative designed to foster institutional co-operation in the field of higher education between the European Union and India through a mobility scheme with following objective:
- Promoting Mobility for students and academic staff for studying, teaching, training and research.
- Enhancing international co-operation between Higher Educational Institutions.
- Pave way to international recognition of studies and qualifications.
- Enhance role of higher education sector by exchanging knowledge, skills and expertise.
The Education, Audio Visual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) is in-charge of the implementation of this co-operation move under the powers delegated by Commission of the European Communities coordinated by Dr. Joechim Fronia, Head of EMECA unit. The partnership consortium consists of 12 Universities in Europe and 8 Universities in India. Lund University, Sweden is the Lead / Coordinating University headed by Dr. Sidsel Hansson, Acting Director of SASNET, Sweden.
Five different types of individual mobility flows and study lengths are available as under:
- Undergraduates - 3 - 09 months
- Masters - 3 - 22 months
- Doctorates - 6 - 34 months
- Post-doctorates fellowship - 6 - 10 months
- Academic staff - 2 - 09 months

Outcome:
The recent participation of the university in the European Scholarship Programme – Erasmus Mundus External Co-operation Window (EMECW) Lot 15 and 13, has provided opportunity to send and receive students to perceive undergraduate, masters, PhD programme and post doctoral research. Academic exchange is also part of this programme. This cooperation exists between 12 European Universities and 8 Indian Universities. The scholarship covers the total cost of living, tution fees and transportation. For the current lot (Lot 15), 15 students have been selected and are currently undergoing UG and PG programmes at the various european universities. Two faculty members from Karolinska Institute, Sweden are currently on a visit to our university as part of academic exchange programme under Lot 15. They are specialized in Diabetology and Physiotherapy.
PIMS University received four scholarship grants under EMECW Lot 13- three for master programme & one for academic exchange. All the three students have been selected to perceive Masters Programme at the European Universities. Scholarship of two students from lot 15 were upgraded to master programme (Public Health) in Lot 13
