Areas of cooperation:

• Undertake joint collaborative hospital based as well as community based research in Diabetes mellitus
• Exploring possibilities to establish Diabetic Clinic at the Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital
• Conduct joint non-formal academic/training activities in screening and prevention of Diabetes mellitus and identifying high risk cases for students & primary health care workers

Duration of Agreement: January 2011 – December 2013

Joint collaborative research in Diabetes mellitus:

PIMS – DU intends to undertake the following joint collaborative research projects in Diabetes Mellitus (DM) with Dr Carina Ursing, MD PhD, as a specialist in Diabetology, Department of Internal Medicine, Intitutionen Södersjukhuset, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.

• Study of prevalence of Diabetes mellitus in correlation to anthropometric variables in the in the rural population
• Study of prevention and causes of high risk factors for diabetic mellitus and its complications amongst rural population

Exploring to establish Diabetic Clinic at the Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital:

Through this MoU PIMS desires to establish a diabetic clinic at the Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital for screening and monitoring of the Diabetes Mellitus cases.

Conduct joint non-formal educational programs in Diabetes Mellitus including prevention and conducting awareness program

PIMS DU will utilize the expertise of Dr Carina Ursing, MD PhD, to conduct workshop / Seminars/CME's in diabetes for postgraduate students / paramedical staff & Primary Health Care Workers. Special screening and prevention programs will be conducted in diabetes at institutional and community level, as a part of this MoU.
