Objectives:

• To develop the biotechnology, Bioinformatics and allied branches at PIMS – DU
• To offer Indian and Swedish Students exchange programmes in well organized conditions
• To imrove technologies in training, research and health care at the PIMS – DU with the emphasis on the following areas:
  1. Molecular Biology
  2. Biotechnology
  3. Genetic Engineering
  4. Bioinformatics
  5. Health care
  6. Biomedicine
  7. Medical Informatics

Funding:

This collaboration is being perceived through funding from Linnaeus Palme Scholarship Programme, Sweden currently renewed upto August 2010.

Achievements:

The Center for Biotechnology offers a Masters Course in Medical Biotechnology which is unique course in India. This course has been started with the participation of Faculty from University of Skovde. With the support from the UoS, Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences has developed Molecular Biology Lab. In order to plan and develop this new course the Academic Council of the university is represented by the faculty from Sweden. So far two students from Center for biotechnology have been selected to undergo Masters course in Biotechnology at Skovde.

In order to create health care facilities at par with the international standards, nursing students and faculty and have been provided with an opportunity to visit India and Sweden. In the last three years 5 nursing students and one faculty have visiting PIMS and participated in the health care activities at the Primary Health Care, Mobile Clinics and College of Nursing. Two nursing students are scheduled to visit again in Jan 2010.

One nursing faculty has visited University of Skovde in March/ April 2009 and two more faculty under the Linnaeus Palme Scholarship programme are due to visit in June 2010.
