Pravara Medical Trust has been providing Rehabilitation services to its rural and tribal people since 1976. To further strengthen the rehabilitation services to spinal cord injury patients of rural and tribal area , Hon’ble Pro- Chancellor Dr. Rajendra E. Vikhe Patil conceptualized the establishment of “Smt. Sindhutai E. Vikhe Patil Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre” during his visit to Karolinska Institutet, and Spinalis Rehabilitation Center at Sweden in 2014. The centre has developed as per expert advice of Dr. Inka, Physiotherapist, who is specialised in spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation from Spinalis foundation- a Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre, Stockholm, Sweden. She holds extensive experience of establishment of SCI centres in various developing countries like Bostwana, Namibia and Zambia and also worked in United States of America and Nepal. Hence she has acquired global perspective of Spinal Cord Injury and its management. The mission of Smt. Sindhutai E. Vikhe Patil Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation centre form its inception in January 2018 is to provide comprehensive health care, improve functional skills and make SCI patients independent in society.

Mission :

To regain patient’s Independence in Functional & Social activities and to improve Quality of life.

Objectives :

• To rehabilitate and provide total health care facilities for spinal cord injury patients (Paraplegia/ Tetraplegia) as per International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) guidelines.
• To provide latest facilities with modern health related equipments & wheelchair friendly gymnasium for patients
• To encourage & motivate them to be self-confident, self-reliant and self-sufficient.
• Media/entertainment room/recreational room.
• Non-discrimination and equality between men and women – adequate training and counselling, and to provide affordable services and assistive devices for disability-related needs.

Facilities available at Smt. Sindhutai E. Vikhe Patil SCI Rehab Centre :

• In-patient department (IPD)- Free of charge admission and stay with wheelchair friendly modified rooms and toilets
• Out-patient department (OPD)- Free of charge Physiotherapy treatment and training
• Dedicated medical team and Internationally trained Physiotherapists and Nursing staff.
• Wheelchair skills and training for day to day activities and well equipped Wheelchair friendly gymnasium along with physical trainer guidance for patients.
• Bowel/bladder education training and Activities of Daily Living education.
• Cardio-respiratory endurance training and conditioning, aerobic activity sessions,
• Patient and care giver education and counselling, Home Exercise Plan, Home modification advices for promotion of independence at home
• Medical Social Worker for assistance to family and caregivers
• Assistance in provision of appropriate wheelchairs and assistive devices.
• Rehab coach (SCI Survivor) as peer support in rehabilitation and community integration
• Free food facility for admitted patients
